What To Watch: Suicide Squad

One of my most anticipated movies of the year was “Sucide Squad”. Naturally, I was a little bummed when I read the first negative opinions about the movies but went to watch it anyway. Here’s what I thought.

Plot

The Suicide Squad is a new built task force created to fight the worst enemies one could make up. It mostly consists of villains from the DC universe as they probably wouldn’t be missed in the case that they died which is considered to be very likely. Some of the villains gone good involved are Deadshot, Harley Quinn as well as Enchantress (Cara Delevigne),  who can only be controlled because the military holds her heart.

My Opinion

First of all: I cannot agree with all the very bad reviews about the movie. Of course, there are things that could have been better but honestly, the same goes for your lovely, everybody’s favourite Marvel movies. The parts where the movie lacks power and action (read: the fight against the real villain) are outweighed with the parts where we enjoy the characters because they’re fun and they actually have a personality that goes beyond “we’re the good guys here and everyone else is bad” – especially because they’re actually bad too.

The relationship of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie, Wolf of Wall Street or The Big Short) and the Joker (Jared Leto, American Psycho or Dallas Buyers Club) might be a little too romantic for some long-established comic book fans but I loved the crazy relationship that seems to confuse the Joker in his twisted mind a little and I had wished to see a little more of that. Joker x Harley Quinn movie, anyone?

Also, the fun fact that they made Harley Quinn’s shorts longer in the trailer to be more family friendly. But that’s another story.

Moreover, I liked the background stories of Deadshot (Will Smith, I, Robot) and Diablo and can we also talk about how adorable Killer Croc is, even though he’s a scary, big saurian?

In a nutshell, we could say that DC should take a look at their main fights in the movie – because honestly, why wasn’t the uber villain able to blow them all away? – and not to cut out too much of the people that their audience was expecting the most (ahem, the Joker, ahem), but overall I loved the movie. If you were scared away by the bad reviews, I’d highly recommend you go watch it to build your own opinion. And please, don’t expect a typical Marvel flick. (No offense, I mean I love Iron Man and Deadpool.) It’s not Marvel. It’s DC and DC just makes different movies. Give them a chance. Even – thanks to his custome – chubby-looking Batman aka Ben Affleck.

Did you watch Suicide Squad? Did you like it like me or do you agree more with the bad reviews? Are you a Marvel or DC fan? Or both? Or don’t you like superheros and villains at all?

I love Harley Quinn (I actually named my cat Quinn after her) and she is the main reason I wanted to see the movie. I did think there was going to be more joker, honestly. The whole thing with putting his hand over his mouth though, I was expecting the joker face we all know and love actually on his face, haha. They gave a little of Quinn & Joker’s back story but your right, I think that needs to be another movie. She played her extremely well!

    • Aw, that’s so cute with your cat. 🙂
Yeah, well, they thought of some new “styles” for the characters – Joker’s hand and Harley’s outfit. That’s cool, I think. Some comic book fans maybe didn’t like it, but I was okay with it. 😀
I hope the next movie will include more of the Joker! Jared Leto did a great job – and yeah, maybe, we can hope for a Harley and Joker movie one day … that would be fantastic.
